The Best of Brazilian Design

Showcasing an extensive contemporary collection of Brazilian graphic design, São Paulo hosted the 10th Brazilian Graphic Design Biennial during the month of June 2013.

With a total of 444 projects – the largest number in all of its history – the selection represents the best of Brazilian design that has been developed over the last four years. These have been selected by a diverse jury of 89 renowned professionals from across the world; a specialist and contemporary panel whose ethos is enabling Brazilian design to break out beyond national barriers.

The selected projects are presented within 4 main axes: EDITORIAL BIENNIAL, with editorial publications and reading fonts; DIGITAL BIENNIAL, with works developed for interactive assimilation, on-line or in-movement; PROMOTIONAL BIENNIAL, with service, product and event identification, as well as promotional projects; BIENNIAL ETC&SOFORTH, where visual communication dialogues with other project activities, such as architecture, product design, illustration, fashion, and art in general.

The Biennial has, since its first edition and launch in 1992, always been a grand celebration of Brazilian graphic design. Organized by ADG Brasil, the national Graphic Designers Association, it is Brazil’s most traditional assembly of members from the creative industry – professionals, clients, suppliers, scholars, educators and students – featuring lectures, conferences, guided tours, parallel shows, publication launches and many other activities that commemorate and promote Brazilian design.

“The Brazilian Graphic Design Biennial is the moment when the Brazilian graphic design scene reflects upon its own achievements, debates its course and outlines its plans for the future, showing an intense dialogue with innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, economic development, sustainability and society”, says Bruno Porto, designer, educator and the Biennial’s General Coordinator.

The event kick-started with an opening ceremony at Memorial da América Latina, on Friday June 14th, where approximately 70 projects, selected by an international jury made up of professionals from 14 countries, and were awarded for their outstanding work.
