Ryan Ward was born in South Africa, currently lives in North Devon England. From a young age he was heavily obsessed with surf and skateboard art and advertising and so he started his design studio named Oddasea. Ryan incorporated music and the counter culture sports lifestyle into his work. He produces films promoting his artworks, and have had a couple of exhibitions.
Today, along with selling his personal artwork, he collaborates with local photographer www.bleasdalephoto.com and works on freelance projects for some small independant clothing brands.
When I asked him to share some thoughts regarding Oddasea and his inspirations, Ryan said:
“Oddasea is an art brand that started from a love and real appreciation for the ocean and artwork. A retro modern take on the world as it’s seen.
I use the decorative ace of spades for the oddasea branding as i think it symbolises the boldness of my work, I also am an artist with bi-polar disorder and felt this logo suited.
My work has a vintage feel with a modern twist about emotions, the ocean and life in general. The ideas behind my designs are mostly put together very rapidly in my mind, with a bold response to whatever I hear, see and feel at the time. I have to put these emotions down on paper or whatever platform they transpire onto.”
