Fontwerk font foundry

Fontwerk is a digital font foundry and provider of type services. They represent the typographic work of top designers from around the world and counting. In Fontwerk believe that convincing communication is only possible with the most aesthetically pleasing and most technically sound fonts. Their vision is to provide easy access to such fonts through free trial versions, a simple licensing model and one of the fastest ordering processes around.

Ivo Gabrowitsch, founder and managing director during his years as Marketing Director at FontShop and Senior Director of Marketing at Monotype, learned about agencies, designers, and brands’ needs for modern typefaces and innovative font engineering and type design services. The engineering parts includes font mastering, production, colour fonts and variable fonts, the design part includes custom typeface design, including language extensions, but also logo design services and calligraphy workshops. In general, there’s a lot of FontShop DNA included in their label.

Most of Fontwerk’s typefaces have very interesting background stories (e.g. Supermarker’s use of intelligent tricks (its name is a combination of supermarket and marker), Romaine’s age (450 years old!), Pangea’s approach to make the world a better place or Nikolai’s origination process). Fontwerk’s nine designers are a very diverse group from all over the world. Their upcoming next release will be a new family from none other than Erik Spiekermann (together with Anja Meiners and Ralph du Carrois).
