Italian Poster Biennal | Call for Entries

Vox populi states that we’re living the era of image. Visual communication is a form of language which is immediate and reachable by anybody, an ideal vehicle of ideas and bearer of vivacious debate.

The aims of the Italian Poster Biennal will be:
1. Debating over issues of social importance, spreading a humanistic and democratic culture. In particular this time the main theme of the event will be “WAR / Homo homini lupus“
2. Reflect and discuss about the current state of international poster-design;
3. Being a circumstance for celebration and socialization. Organizators believe that design can change the world, can help people to be more free-minded.
In any designer should be a bit of the soul of Odysseus, his eagerness to venture into unknown seas, a little bit of courage. Intellectual curiosity is the only one that will allow people to increase their knowledge and have a critical attitude (that is, the attitude of a free-man).
So: be brave and curious!

Design a poster that gives a positive message of hope, showing the way to defeat the value systems which generated economic disparities and conflicts, racial hate, underdeveloped countries, and blindness the sacred nature of life.
Show the existence of a healing power of dialogue which allows us to transcend egocentrism and selfishness thus opening the world to compassion and love: “To reach this great purpose of the well-being of all humankind we should start from an internal disarment ” (Masao Yokota).
Posters condemning war itself are also welcome. However designers are invited to avoid the perpetuation of visual clichés as they wouldn’t offer anything new to debate.
