Overlap is a layered pattern system, 5 basic layers wich can generate more and more patterns. The system has been alphabetically coded, A—E, and has been designed to function as a font, which you can see in use here: http://ildivalicsek.tumblr.com/post/92618926806/overlap-fonts-in-use.
Ildikó Valicsek studied textile design and this was her graduation project at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest.
This is a concept about how to create an endless and modular pattern collection of a very similar and basic, geometric elements, that communicate with each other. Ildikó loves modularity and system thinking. The modules can be not just rapported, like how we do a pattern normaly, but also layered on each other in 5 different ways.
These collections are: basic, striped, checked, figured and offset.
The book was designed by Éva Valicsek.
