When love and passion are the forces to drive you, you can only become successful. Janet Allinger, illustrator from Detroit, is such a wonderful example. Janet had an artistic talent since she was a kid, always doing something creative with clay (or Play-Doh), paint, pencils and crayons. She would spend hours drawing cartoon’s of her dog Spike or practicing character styles referencing her “How to Draw” books. During Jr. and high school, she took all available art classes and was accepted into a commercial art class in 11th grade. She did well in that class but didn’t love the whole idea of graphic design… yet.
At the age of 19 she was already working, and at the same time practicing her skills as an illustrator, for General Motors, as an automotive “job shop” (as they called them). After 5 years she was given the opportunity to work on an Apple computer the company bought after they realized, they needed to move from hand drawn technical pages to digital. “I worked on the very first versions of Adobe’s Illustrator and Photoshop! I loved working on the computer creating illustrations and page layouts! Sometimes my boss would have to remind me it was time to go home”.
Her passion and love rewarded her! She perfected her skills over the years, met top graphic designers and never ceased experimenting with her artistic abilities. Today, Janet is based in Santa Cruz CA, and has a great mix of clients. Take a look at these wonderful illustrations or explore more at Janet’s Allinger website at http://www.janetallinger.com/
