The Mid Century Radio and TV Robot Series

The Mid Century Radio and TV Robot Series is a poster project designed by Mike Slobot. Mike has always felt a special affinity towards Space Age Modern and Mid-Century Design. The use of – what was then a new product– plastic and the excitement over space travel and new technologies made this a really interesting creative mix. It was a time of hope and change that seems so exciting.

All this got Mike to thinking about his influences as an artist, so he decided to take some of his inspirations and create robots from that time period, using TVs and radios as the heads of the Slobots.

There are currently 8 robots in the series – 4 with radio heads and 4 with TV heads. All can be purchased in Mike’s Slobot shop. They come in convenient sizes – 8 x 10 inches, 11 x 17 inches and Mike’s favourite 13 x 19 inches. Larger sizes and prints on canvas are available as special orders.

About Mike Slobot

Mike has been sculpting and painting most of his life. Since 2004, he has been exploring his one-of-a-kind robot art, the Slobots.

Slobots are the good guys and are an exercise in exploring human emotions. They are not destructive but work in conjunction with people, animals and the planet, with a desire to bring a message of hope.

A Slobot is created with old and new materials, and often incorporates bits and pieces of recyclable materials and other everyday detritus. These re-purposed parts come together blending art and technology to create a Slobot healer, helper or friend.

Mike is a robot sculptor, painter, artist and storyteller. His robot art creations are explored in both 2D and 3D mediums. Slobots have been shown in New York City, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Istanbul and worldwide. He has been featured in various publications and art books such as “Dot Dot Dash: Designer Toys, Action Figures And Character Art”.
